Tiki Island Volunteer Fire Department is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that provides emergency services to the Village of Tiki Island and the surrounding unincorporated areas of Galveston county. All services are provided by both part-time paid and volunteer members and primarily focus on fire suppression and ALS-first responder emergency services. Further survies that are provided by TIVFD are hazmat response, PR events, fire prevention, and general community wellness functions.
TIVFD is always looking for volunteers and new members from within our community. Look at our calander under the members section and see when the next time is we are meeting. Come by and check us out, if it is something you are interested in we will provide you with an application to become a member.
Allan Smith is a resident of the Village of Tiki Island and a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the Tiki Island Volunteer Fire Department. He became a Board Member in January 2022 and elected to serve as President for 2023 and again in 2024.
Steve Cunningham, has resided in the Village of Tiki Island since 2010. After his house caught fire in July 2018, he heard the call to become a Volunteer Fire Fighter with TIVFD. He has served as a Volunteer Fire Fighter since September of 2018. Steve has continued his training and is now also an Emergency Medical Responder. Steve joined the Board in 2021 and has previously served as Vice President.
Helen Korb has been a resident of the Village of Tiki Island since 2017. She holds a Master of Science in Finance and was appointed as Treasurer in July 2022 and then elected to serve as Treasurer in 2023 and again in 2024. She has since volunteered as an Active Member as a Firefighter and completed training through Firefighter 1-Skills in March 2024. She has started her EMR training as well.
Karen has been a resident of Tiki Island since 2014. She joined the TIVFD as a Resident Member helping with public relations , events and other support functions. In September of 2021 she was appointed to fill in as Secretary until she was elected as Secretary for 2022. Karen continues to perform her previous functions and was re-elected to serve as Secretary for 2023.
Pat is Tiki Island resident. He retired from the City of Houston Fire Department at the rank of District Chief and provides 30 plus years of knowledge and experience within the fire service. He has served on the Fire Board for several years as Director, President and Vice President.
Chuck Tylka is a Tiki Island home owner. Chuck has extensive experience in the combination fire department service. He currently is a member on our board and the Fire Chief of Southeast Houston Volunteer Fire Department.
Richard is a Tiki Island homeowner and has served through being a board member and a volunteer firefighter. He is heavily involved in fund raiser and community events held by the fire department.
The majority of funding for the fire department is funded by a mandatory fee established by the Water District to provide emergency services to the community of the Village of Tiki Island.
The Village of Tiki Island provides addional funding to the Fire Department, who conducts all Fire Prevention Services to the Village. These services include inspections, investigations, and public education
Galveston county provides funding for TIVFD to respond to incidents on I45 that are in the unincorporated part of the county.
Jason was hired by the TIVFD in 2014 as the Fire Marshal, Firefighter and Paramedic. Shortly thereafter he was promoted to Assistant Fire Chief and continued as Fire Marshal. Jason was promoted to Fire Chief in April of 2021. He has been a Fire Fighter since 2007. In addition to serving as TIVFD Fire Chief, he is also a full time Captain with Texas City Fire Department.
Chris has 20 plus years experience in EMS and combination fire departments. He has been with TIVFD since 2010. Chris has served as Day Supervisor and oversees all apparatus of the Fire Department. He was appointed to Assistant Fire Chief in late 2021.
Wendell has 20 plus year experience in EMS and Firefighting. He has been with TIVFD since 2012. He is the EMS Administrator and oversees all aspects of EMS services provided by Tiki Island Volunteer Fire Department. He also holds the position as Captain at Texas City Fire Department.
Charles has been a Firefighter for 8+ years and with TIVFD since 2018. He was appointed to Day Captain in late 2021. Charles is also a Firefighter at Texas City Fire Department.
Louis has been a Firefighter for 8+ years and with TIVFD since 2016. Louis was appointed to Lieutenant at TIVFD in late 2021.
Andrew has been with TIVFD since 2022. He was promoted to Day Captain in August of 2024
Tanner has been with TIVFD since 2021.
Jonathan has been with TIVFD since 2012.
Justin has been with TIVFD since 2021.
Mat has been with TIVFD since 2021.
Matthew joined TIVFD in the summer of 2024.
Allan has resided in Tiki Island since 2018. He became interested in our Fire Department and decided to join to serve our community. He earned his certification as EMR and Firefighter I in 2018. Allan has also served as Lieutenant from Dec 2022 thru June 2023. He has also served on the TIVFD Board since January 2022 and was elected President in 2023.
Steve has resided in Tiki Island since 2010. He had had interest in joining TIVFD, for quite some time. However, then his house caught on fire in the middle of the night in 2018. Steve saw how short staffed the department was and made the decision to become a Volunteer and serve our community. Steve obtained certification as an EMR and Firefighter I. He is also served on the TIVFD Board since July 2021.
Chad has resided in Tiki Island since July of 2017. He was a Volunteer Firefighter when he was in college. He became aware that TIVFD was looking for Volunteer Firefighters and, with the encouragement of his wife Helen, he made the decision to join the department in 2018. Chad has earned Firefighter I and Hazmat Operations III certification. He will complete his Firefighter II certification in March 2023.
Tim has resided on Tiki Island since 2022 and joined the Fire Department soon after. His Dad was a volunteer firefighter for 47 years and Tim followed the family tradition starting his career as a junior firefighter when he was 16. Tim became a police officer and rose through the ranks, becoming the Chief of Police for the METRO Police in Houston. He retired from METRO as the executive vice president responsible for all operations, safety and security of the transit system. During his working career, Tim spent over 30 years as a volunteer firefighter and paramedic. He also served as an adjunct faculty member in the EMT/Paramedic program at Lee College in Baytown. When Tim retired he allowed his paramedic license to expire not knowing he would be moving to Tiki Island where he could again serve the public. Since joining TIVFD, Tim has attended training and received his certification as an Emergency Medical Responder.
Bryce VanWagner joined TIVFD in June 2023. He graduated from the Fire Academy at the College of the Mainland in December of 2023 and is working on his EMS certification.
Matt is our newest Volunteer. He resides in Tiki Island. He joined TIVFD in May of 2024. Matt earned his EMR certification in October 2024. He is currently working on his Firefighter I certification, which is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2025.
Robert and Pat are long time residents of Tiki Island. Robert is a Retired Captain, Firefighter and EMT. He also served on the TIVFD Board for many years.
Allison Little is a long time TIVFD Volunteer and resident of Tiki Island.
Becky and husband, Steve , have been Tiki island residents since 2010. Becky has helped with TIVFD fund raising and other events and officially joined as a volunteer in September 2023.
Teri and husband, Allan, moved to Tiki island in 2018. Teri has helped with various TIVFD activities and events and officially joined as a volunteer in September 2023.
